As part of an exciting range of great quality educational toys and games for children 0-15 years, Flying Penguin stocks products carefully chosen with the environment in mind. Flying Penguin visitors will find toys and games that are made from recycled or sustainable materials, manufactured in a way that respects the environment, made locally or directly support impoverished communities. And very few will need batteries!
Sourcing toys made with genuine environmental consideration is challenging because so many elements contribute to the assessment of environmental impact. For example, a true environmental analysis will consider the distance the product has travelled, how it has travelled, what the product and packaging is made of, whether the product is toxic to the environment (including children), the practices of the manufacturer and so on.
At Flying Penguin we will clearly display the eco-claims of the items we stock so that you can make informed decisions about eco-credibility. At the same time, we undertake to remain well informed about the industry and continuously update stock as new environmentally-friendly products enter the market.
When sourcing stock Flying Penguin staff look for toys that are:
made with (at least some) recycled material content
made with wood that is FSC certified – comes from sustainably managed forests
made from materials in abundant supply (eg bamboo and post-latex producing rubber wood)
certified safe for children
certifiably organic
biodegradable
presented with minimal or recycled packaging
manufactured by a company with 14001ISO endorsement
Fair Trade certified

PVC, BPA, lead, Phthalate and petroleum free (including paint and glue used in packaging)
good quality - increasing the opportunity for re-use
Details about each toy’s eco-credentials are listed in the item description.
